About the Workshop

All master's students must complete this one-day, non-credit workshop in business communication skills before registering for their fifth 8000-level course. Effective communication skills are critical for managers. In a rapidly changing environment, managers must develop leadership and interpersonal skills to motivate employees, gain commitment for their ideas, and persuade upper management, both in writing and through spoken presentations. In this one-day Communication Skills and Strategies Workshop, through combined discussion and interactive exercises, students will learn to:

  • Analyze audiences and formulate a conscious communication strategy to addess those audiences.
  • Formulate a writing process to produce clear, concise, and objective-oriented documents.
  • Improve information accessibility through document design and visual support.
  • Develop and deliver effective oral presentations.
  • Enhance personal delivery in one-on-one communication such as interviews, business conversations, and meetings.
