Through the efforts of Bijan Fazlollahi, associate professor of decision sciences at Georgia State, College of Business Administration MBA students may soon be able to study at Khazar University in Azerbaijan. Fazlollahi, who was a Fulbright Scholar to the former USSR in 1992/93 and is an honorary professor at Azerbaijan State Oil Academy, received a grant last fall to create this program. Currently, faculty members from Azerbaijan are at Georgia State preparing their courses to teach at Khazar University.

"The former Soviet Union offers a worthwhile challenge as well as a good opportunity for Georgia State. It is a challenge because helping the command economy turn around has never been attempted. It is an opportunity because it offers fertile grounds for internationalization of programs, faculty and students," Fazlollahi said.

"The former Soviet Union has an educated public, many of whom hold college degrees in many fields except business. The demand for CBA programs including the MBA program is very large. CBA programs can be easily adapted and offered in an atmosphere of minimal competition (except in Moscow where there is even an American MBA program)," he said.
