Program
The program is designed to introduce students to European Hospitality through the exploration of a variety of hospitality businesses in Switzerland, Germany, and France. The first phase of the course (May 16 - 20) will be conducted in Atlanta (on WebCT for students outside the Atlanta metropolitan area) and will address the background of the European hospitality and tourism industry utilizing lectures, videos and class discussion.
The second phase (May 24 - June 7) will involve and exploration of a variety of hospitality businesses in Switzerland, France, and Germany. Activities will include:
- Tours of landmark hotels in Interlaken, Lucerne and Paris
- Tours and dining experiences in some of the world's leading restaurants
- A tour of a major convention center in Lucerne
- A guided tour of French wineries and chateaus
- A tour of an authentic German brewery
- A tour of a large scale catering company and French bakery
- A tour of a leading casino and resort spa in Baden-Baden
- A cooking class focused on authentic Swiss cuisine
Visits to the various facilities will be complemented by presentations from managers and owners of the host facilities.
Eligibility
This program is open to all undergraduates and graduate students who meet all academic requirements of the Georgia State University J. Mack Robinson College of Business (see appropriate university catalog). Program size is limited so participants are urged to apply early. Participation is contingent upon acceptance by the program director.
Credit and Coordinated Courses
Participants who successfully complete the program will receive three credit hours. Undergraduate students will register for HADM 4990. Graduate students will register for HADM 8389.
