Robinson Alumni Entrepreneurship Award
Initially a tax accountant, Barbara Babbit Kaufman has enjoyed a highly successful career as an entrepreneur. Her initial venture as was co-founder and CFO of Turtle's Music, a music store chain that is now Blockbuster Music. While raising her children, Kaufman started or co-founded businesses including: Bubble Gum Inc., a children's clothing store; Therapy, Inc., a ladies' clothing store; and Chapter 11* The Discount Bookstore, a 13-store discount chain in Georgia. Along the way, she also was a professor of retailing at Georgia State University. The author of Attitude (Longstreet Press, 2004) and an in-demand motivational speaker, Kaufman recently founded BBK Consulting, a retail firm that advises clients about operations, financial planning and marketing. |

Selected by the National Association of Women Business Owners as 2002's Woman Business Owner of the Year, Kaufman also has been named one of Georgia Trend's "100 Most Influential Georgians," as well as "one of Atlanta's defining women" by the Atlanta History Center. A member of Robinson's Board of Advisors, she was the School of Accountancy's 2001 Distinguished Alumna of the Year. Kaufman serves on the boards of Omni National Bank and MARTA (Metropolitan Atlanta Rapid Transit Authority). She also is active in the Jewish community and has served on the boards of the American Jewish Committee, and the Marcus Jewish Community Center.
Married to Richard Kaufman, the couple has five children together: Jennifer, 29; Michelle, 28; Lauren, 27; Betsy, 26; and Garrett, 23.
