"We are honored to sponsor these scholarships for Georgia students who have the vision of spending their careers detecting and preventing fraud. With the increased incidence of fraud cases in recent years, this field is growing, and we are happy to help the next generation complete their studies and enter the workforce," said Jennifer Birtz, Scholarship Chair, GACFE.
Applicants had to attend school full-time and be rising junior or senior undergraduate or graduate students in accounting, criminal justice, risk management or law degree programs in the state of Georgia, who have demonstrated an interest in fraud detection and prevention. Winners were chosen on the basis of overall academic achievement demonstrated by notarized transcripts, two letters of faculty recommendation and an interest in fraud detection, deterrence and prevention demonstrated through courses of study and career goals.
"I truly appreciate the help that ACFE is giving me during such a difficult time. In Of Mice and Men, John Steinbeck wrote that 'the best laid plans of mice and men often go awry.' I have truly seen that this year, as many of my future plans have been diverted and unstable. However, I am still determined to pursue my education and look for the best. I could not do it without the support of organizations like the Georgia Chapter of the Association of Certified Fraud Examiners. I am very grateful that I have been given such an opportunity to receive your help and support, and develop such wonderful relationships in the field of accounting," said scholarship recipient Torrence McIllwain.
The ACFE is the world's largest anti-fraud organization and premier provider of anti-fraud training and education. Together with nearly 50,000 members, the ACFE is reducing business fraud world-wide and inspiring public confidence in the integrity and objectivity within the profession.
