Is a PhD program right for me?
Our Phd program prepares students to do research and teaching at the university level. A student whose main goal is outside academia should probably consider a master's level program.
How is the program structured?
Incoming students take courses in methodology and statistics during their first year along with coursework in their major area. During the second year, students take doctoral seminars in their area of study. Some departments have a third year of coursework. Students are required to pass a comprehensive exam. Once this exam is passed, students devote their time to the development of their dissertation. Both the dissertation proposal and the final dissertation product must be defended orally before a group of faculty and students. Departments might have additional requirements.
